DANETTE EDDY

Danette Eddy is a native of Newfoundland. An accomplished fiddler, she is also a classically trained violinist. At 21 she has an enviable list of achievements. Nationally recognized as one of Canada’s finest fiddlers she has represented Newfoundland in the Canadian Grand Masters’ Old Tyme Fiddling Championships for five consecutive years and at the 1996 Canada Day Celebrations on Parliament Hill, sharing the stage with 19 of Canada’s best fiddlers (including Natalie MacMaster, Ashley MacIsaac, Ned Landry and Graham Townsend). She has performed as a special guest to The Irish Descendants, Great Big Sea and Spirit of the West and delighted audiences in Newfoundland, Canada, the U.S. and Britain with her energetic and charismatic fiddle playing.

In 1999 Danette released the first album of her own compositions entitled Motion Potion on the SingSong Inc. label. As a violinist and fiddler she has drawn on these influences to create her own distinctive sound. Exploring the dynamics of these two main influences her compositions are a blend of her classical training and her Newfoundland heritage. Inspired by EmileBenoit, Rufus Guinchard, Mozart, Beethoven and Bach she brings a new twist to traditional fiddling. The result is a collection of tunes that are mature and confident, emphasizing her individuality as a performer and composer. In finding her place in the music world she is developing an exciting and refreshing variety on a traditional theme, one that makes her a powerful presence on stage.
