Sing Song Inc. has just released its anxiously awaited CD and cassette of the ballads and instrumental music of Dorman Ralph (1923-1999).
One of Newfoundland's most talented and powerful traditional singers, Dorman Ralph died in January 1999. This CD is a co-production of Peter Narvaez and Jim Payne. The performances were recorded by Narvaez in 1986 and reveal Ralph's singing and accordion playing in peak form. Traditional British and Irish ballads (Fair Flowers of Holly-O, Susan Strayed the Briney Beach, Charming Blue-Eyed Mary), Newfoundland ballads (The Schooner Huberry, Captain Gulliver's Spree), and original songs (The Honest Fisherman, the Ice-Cream Sale) are featured along with traditional and original accordion and harmonica instrumentals. A total of nineteen superb selections make these recordings a must for all lovers
of Newfoundland traditional music.
